6-Month Biome Balance Programme

The 6-Month Biome Balance Programme
Most gut problems we see can be put right in six months, with careful monitoring and the right powders. This programme does the whole job: find the imbalance, correct it month by month with blends built from your dog's own results, then retest and see the change on paper.
Dog
Cat, currently unavailable
- Your first PetBiome microbiome test kit, sequenced at Aberystwyth University
- A 1:1 with Dr Carol Hughes, founder and microbiologist, not sold separately
- Six months of powders blended bespoke to your dog's results*
- A full retest after six months, so the change is measured, not guessed
- Ongoing support from the microbiome team throughout

An hour with the microbiologist who built the test
You can buy a test kit. You can buy powders. You cannot buy this.
The 1:1 is with Dr Carol Hughes, founder of Biome4Pets and the microbiologist behind the sequencing. She reads your dog's report with you line by line, tells you what the numbers actually mean for your dog, and sets the six-month plan herself.
It isn't sold anywhere on this site, at any price. The 6-Month Biome Balance Programme is the only way to get it, and her research schedule means places are genuinely limited.
Three you could buy. One you can’t.
The kits and the powders you could order one at a time. The hour with Dr Carol Hughes you could not, at any price. That is the part that turns a set of results into a plan, and it only exists inside this programme.

Your first test kit
A simple at-home stool sample, genomically sequenced at Aberystwyth University, and a full PetBiome report benchmarked against 10,000+ pets.

A 1:1 with Dr Carol Hughes
Not a generic call. The founder and microbiologist behind the test reads your dog’s report with you, explains where the imbalance sits, and sets the plan for the next six months.

Six months of bespoke powders
Blended to your dog's own results, not an off-the-shelf probiotic. One packet a month, delivered, with extra packets available at a discount.

A full retest
The same sequencing again at month six, set side by side with month one. Progress you can measure, rather than a feeling that things seem better.
*Powders are based on one packet per month. Additional powders are offered at a discounted rate.
You've tried everything, except knowing
Most gut problems get treated by trial and error: a new food, another supplement, one more vet visit. Testing replaces the guesswork with your dog's actual data.
Recurring diarrhoea
Soft stools that clear up for a week, then come straight back.
Vomiting & acid reflux
Grass-eating, gulping, early-morning sickness with no obvious trigger.
Itching, licking, chewing
Paws, ears and skin that flare up no matter what you change.
Food sensitivities
Elimination diets that never quite find the culprit.
Anxious, reactive behaviour
The gut–brain axis means behaviour and digestion are linked.
Vet bills that keep coming
Treating the symptom, again and again, without finding the cause.
Six months of trial and error adds up
| The guesswork route | The Biome Balance Programme | |
|---|---|---|
| Food | Elimination diets, one bag at a time | Changes guided by your dog's actual bacteria |
| Supplements | Tubs you may not need, month after month | Powders blended to the results, six months covered |
| Expert input | Ten-minute appointments, different answers | A 1:1 with Dr Carol Hughes, plus ongoing support |
| Knowing if it worked | A feeling that things seem a bit better | A retest at month six, side by side with month one |
| Cost | Keeps adding up, with no end date | £550 once, everything included for six months |
When the gut is right, everything follows
An imbalanced microbiome is linked to itchy skin, gastric discomfort and food sensitivities. Testing shows exactly where the imbalance lies, so it can be corrected, not guessed at.
Calmer digestion
Pinpoint the bacterial imbalances behind diarrhoea, vomiting and acid reflux.
Healthier skin & coat
Uncover the gut-level drivers of itchiness, allergies and sensitivities.
More energy
A stable microbiome supports healthy digestion, and the vitality that comes with it.
Better balance
Emerging gut–brain axis research links the microbiome to mood and behaviour.
How the six months work
From a simple stool sample to a corrected microbiome, with Dr Carol Hughes alongside you and a retest at the end to prove it.
Collect the sample
A simple, stress-free stool sample at home. No vet visits, no invasive procedures. Return box and postage included.
Lab sequencing
Your sample is genomically sequenced at the Aberystwyth University laboratory using 16S rRNA analysis.
Personalised report
Your dog's biome is benchmarked against thousands of dogs to identify patterns and imbalances. Results in 2–4 weeks.
Your 1:1 with Dr Carol Hughes
The founder and microbiologist behind the test walks you through your dog's report and agrees the six-month plan with you.
Monthly bespoke powders
Blends built from your dog's own results, one packet a month, adjusted as the picture changes.
Retest at month six
The same sequencing again, set against month one, so the change is measured rather than hoped for.
What you'll discover about your dog
Not a score out of ten, a full, scientifically interpreted picture of your dog's gut, and exactly what to do with it. Here's what the real report looks like.

Your dog's headline scores
Diversity, species richness and dysbiosis pattern, each scored against defined healthy ranges, so you can see at a glance where your dog sits.

A clear classification
Stable, imbalanced, or imbalanced & depleted, plus exactly which beneficial bacteria are low or missing.

Your dog vs a healthy dog
Your dog's bacterial profile set side by side with the average of 200 healthy dogs, so differences are obvious.

A phased action plan
Not just data, a month-by-month protocol with dietary changes, targeted support and a retest checkpoint.

Finding it is half the job
A test tells you what's wrong. Six months of targeted support is what puts it right, and a retest is what proves it did.
You know what's wrong
- Non-invasive at-home stool test
- 16S rRNA genomic sequencing
- Benchmarked against 10,000+ pets
- Personalised PetBiome report
- Then it's over to you to act on it
And it gets corrected
- Everything in the test, included
- A 1:1 consultation to set the plan
- Six months of powders blended to the results
- Ongoing support as things improve
- A retest at month six to prove the change
Real dogs. Real results.
"No veterinary visits, no stressful and invasive tests for my dog, nothing more than a simple stool test. Three years later, my Ava has still never needed the vet."
"People comment on how much more energy he has and how well he is looking, considering how poorly he was all last year."

"I can't thank you enough for saving my cat, Mo! I tell anyone who will listen about your amazing service."
"The sample kit is very simple to use and the results came through quickly."
Your dog's next six months
Not a product you're left to work out. A sequence, with Dr Carol Hughes alongside you and a measurable checkpoint at the end.
Week 1: Collect
Your kit arrives. A fresh sample, sealed and posted back, five minutes, no stress and no vet visit.
Weeks 2–4: Understand
Your report lands, then your 1:1 consultation. Imbalances identified, benchmarked, and a six-month plan agreed.
Months 1–6: Correct
Bespoke powders each month, blended to the results, with the team on hand as things shift.
Month 6: Prove it
Retest. Your dog's biome at month six, set against month one, so the change is on paper.
Not all microbiome tests are equal
Most competitors rely on limited PCR panels. PetBiome uses full genomic sequencing, and Europe's largest pet microbiome database.
| Feature | Typical PCR test | PetBiome | Your benefit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Method | PCR panel | 16S rRNA genomic sequencing | A far more complete picture of the gut |
| Benchmark database | Limited | 10,000+ dogs & cats, Europe's largest | Results compared against real, relevant pets |
| Report | Static | Continuously updated with new research | Advice that stays current |
| Interpretation | Generic | Team of professional animal microbiologists | Expert eyes on your dog's results |
| Aftercare | None | 1:1 with Dr Carol Hughes + six months of custom powders | A plan, not just a PDF |
One programme. Whole-body understanding.
The gut microbiome influences far more than digestion. Your dog's report covers the systems that matter.
Digestion
Diarrhoea, vomiting and acid reflux traced back to specific bacterial imbalances.
Immune system
The gut is central to immune regulation and your dog's natural defences.
Skin & coat
Itchy skin and dull coats are frequently rooted in gut imbalance.
Allergies & sensitivities
Identify the food sensitivities and intolerances driving reactions.
Inflammation
Chronic inflammation and IBD-type issues, understood at the source.
Weight & metabolism
Obesity and metabolic issues managed through targeted diet changes.
Mood & behaviour
Anxiety and reactivity, viewed through the gut–brain axis.
Energy & vitality
Healthy digestion means better nutrient absorption, and more energy.
Long-term wellbeing
The month-six retest tracks your dog's biome over time, so progress is proven.
Serious sequencing. Plain-English answers.
16S rRNA sequencing
Full genomic identification of the bacteria in your dog's gut, not a narrow PCR panel.
10,000+ pet database
Europe's largest pet microbiome database, built since 2018 from healthy and unhealthy pets.
Expert analysis
Research led and supported by a team of professional animal microbiologists.
Retest & track
The retest at month six turns "it seems better" into measurable change.
Backed by real institutions, not marketing
Samples are sequenced at IBERS, Aberystwyth University, and our work sits alongside respected organisations across pet nutrition and behaviour.
"A simple stool test showed exactly where the imbalance lay… it enabled me quickly and simply to correct it."Gerald Pepin: Dog Nutritionist
Meet Dr Carol Hughes
Founder and Microbiologist at Biome4Pets. With a passion for turning complex microbiome science into practical answers, Carol leads our research and ever-evolving understanding of what's really happening inside our dogs' guts.
Biome4Pets began in 2018, backed by over eight years of microbiome research. Carol kept seeing the same story: devoted owners guessing their way through diets, supplements and elimination trials, while the real answer sat in the gut all along.
The PetBiome test is where that work starts for every dog: one simple sample, sequenced properly, read by people who know exactly what they're looking at.
