Advanced Canine Microbiome Test Kit

Our comprehensive dog microbiome test provides deep, research-grade analysis of your dog's gut health using high-resolution DNA sequencing technology.

This is not a basic screening tool or a simplified “wellness snapshot.” We are a dedicated microbiome testing service, focused entirely on the science of the gut microbiome and its role in digestive health, immunity, behaviour, skin health, metabolic balance, and long-term disease risk.

What Makes Our Testing Different?

Research-Grade DNA Sequencing
Your dog's sample is analysed using advanced sequencing methods that identify bacterial populations at a far deeper and more meaningful level than standard in-house kits.

Laboratory Turnaround Time
We turn around 80% of tests within 2–3 weeks. However, during peak holiday periods (such as Easter and Christmas), results can take up to and occasionally beyond 4 weeks, as we work with a university research laboratory which closes during these times.
This timeframe reflects:

  • Careful DNA extraction and preparation

  • High-depth sequencing

  • Bioinformatic analysis of extremely large microbial datasets

  • Multi-stage quality control

  • Detailed scientific interpretation before your report is finalised

We do not rush the science. Faster turnaround times often mean lower sequencing depth, simplified analysis pipelines, or limited interpretation. Our priority is accuracy, reliability, and clinically meaningful insight.

The Largest Canine Microbiome Database in Europe
We own and continuously expand the largest canine microbiome database globally. This is critical.

A microbiome result is only as powerful as the reference data behind it. Our database allows us to:

  • Compare your dog against thousands of other profiles

  • Identify meaningful patterns, not just generic “imbalances”

  • Detect early risk trends

  • Provide targeted, evidence-based recommendations

  • Track changes over time with true context

Many companies offer microbiome tests as an add-on product. We are a specialist microbiome research and testing service. Our entire focus, experience, and data infrastructure are built around this field.

What You Receive

  • A detailed, scientifically interpreted report

  • Clear explanations of bacterial balance and diversity

  • Identification of dysbiosis patterns

  • Insight into inflammatory and metabolic markers

  • Practical diet and supplement guidance

  • Ongoing support from an experienced microbiome-focused team

Why This Matters

The gut microbiome influences far more than digestion. It plays a central role in:

  • Immune regulation

  • Skin and allergy patterns

  • Behaviour and stress responses

  • Weight management

  • Inflammatory disease risk

  • Long-term resilience

By choosing a dedicated microbiome service with extensive data, deep scientific expertise, and rigorous laboratory standards, you are investing in precision — not guesswork.

This is microbiome testing done properly.

How it Works

Sample Collection

Take Microbiome sample using the instructions and send back to us.

Lab Testing

The test is sent to Aberystwyth Laboratory where the microbiome sequencing is completed.

Personalised Report

Your pets data is compared to 1000’s of other dogs to look for patterns and dissimilarities. We create a report which is then discussed in your one-to-one consultancy with our gut microbiologist.

Support Their Health

We create a plan for you and your pet to increase bio diversity and balance the gut microbiome.

“No veterinary visits, no stressful and invasive tests for my dog, nothing more than a simple stool test.

As a dog nutritionist, it's one thing suspecting a dog has an imbalance in gut bacteria, it's a different matter altogether being able to prove it. That's just what I did when my own dog Ava became ill. No veterinary visits, no stressful and invasive tests for my dog, nothing more than a simple stool test. Three years later, my Ava has still never needed the vet, and I've been happy to recommend the Biome4Pets services to many of my clients, every one of whom has also been more than delighted with the service.”

Frequently Asked Questions

The microbiome is home to trillions of species of bacteria, these support the health of your pet in multiple ways, with links to many of today's common ailments including itchiness, gastric discomfort and food sensitivities. Imbalances of the gut bacteria are common, caused by lifestyle, diet, stress and medications. Many of our pets have low levels of good gut bacteria and high levels of bacteria that cause inflammation. This test will accurately pinpoint low levels of all the good gut bacteria and make personalised recommendations on how best to increase them through dietary changes.

The kit will be delivered to your home and includes instructions, a sample collection tube and a return envelope or box. 2. Collect the SamplePrepare for Sample Collection: Follow the instructions provided in the kit carefully. It’s important to collect the sample as soon as possible after your pet has defecated, to ensure the sample is fresh.Wear gloves if instructed, and use the collection tool we send you Note the Timing: If your pet is on antibiotics or any other medication that could affect their microbiome, let us know in the pet health form. 3. Packaging the SampleSeal and Secure: Once the sample is collected, place it in the provided tube. Send to us, sit back and we will do the rest. 5. Wait for ResultsProcessing: The lab will process the sample and analyse the microbiome to identify the types and quantities of bacteria, fungi, and other microbes present in your pet’s gut. Results: Results typically take 2-4 weeks from when we receive the test. We will then take the data and put it into an easy-to-read report. The report will be emailed to you. Once you have received your report you can book your one-to-one consultancy. 6. Review the Recommendations Follow-up Recommendations: Once the results are ready, you will receive dietary and supplement recommendations based on the findings.
Our tests take between 2-4 weeks to get your results to you from when we receive the sample.
The test is completely non-invasive, so there’s no risk to your dog, no matter their condition. All that’s required is a small sample of their faeces, which we’ll send to our lab for analysis. We’ll take care of the rest. Any dog, regardless of their health status, can be tested. However, certain medications, such as antibiotics, may affect the results or prevent us from accurately analysing the sample. We recommend you wait four weeks after taking the antibiotics before getting tested.
